    Act III
    MacDuff

    – ” How say’st thou that MacDuff denies his person. At our great bidding?”
    (III. IV.159-160)

MacBeth is saying how could MacDuff deny his invitation to be in the great celebration dinner. MacBeth started to question MacDuff loyalty towards him, he has spies over at MacDuff’s house but none of them are there in the moment to report to the King the reasoning of such a lack of respect towards his new king.

    – “… Sent he to MacDuff? … He did, and with an absolute,”Sir, no I,” the cloudy messenger turns his back and hums, as who should say ” You’ll rue the time that clogs me with this answer.” (III.VI.44-48)

“… Did he ask to go after MacDuff and bring him back?… He did and he responded with a “No, Sir”, the messenger delivers the message and brings the answer ” You will regret the day that you said that answer to me…” This passage is the Lord and Lennox discussing the situation that had happened with MacBeth and MacDuff. With those words from MacDuff, MacBeth declared war.

    – “… Advise him to a caution what a distance. His wisdom can provide. Some holy angel…” (III.VI. 50-51)

“… Advice MacDuff to keep the safe distance. His wisdom can finally give Scotland a chance, he can be your holy angel…” Lennox is already thinking that MacBeth has something to do with the death of both Banquo and Duncan, and he is saying that if MacDuff manage to keep himself alive, he can be the final hope that they are looking for. McDuff already knows that probably MacBeth had killed both of the Lords, so he is keeping the distance

    Final Thoughts
MacDuff isn’t really present in person in this Act, he is more present in the thoughts of the other characters.
MacBeth and MacDuff had declared war at each other
MacDuff is considered to be their “Holy Angel” their last hope.

Sarah, good comments on Macduff as the hope of the nobel men and Macbeth’s rival. (Watch the capitalization of “Macbeth” and “Macduff”.) Do you think that he is a foil for Macbeth? If so, why and how?

    Act II

    MacDuff

“Was it so late, friend, ere you went to bed, That you do lie so late?” (Act II, III, XXII)
This is the first time that MacDuff has an aspersion on the book, he had just be summoned by Duncan to go to the castle. When he arrives he sees porter. Porter is comparing his job with the gates of hell, and he then tells a story about been drunk, MacDuff then, asks why he was up until that time, because it was very late already, and he asks the reason for him to be awake until that time,he answered that he was out drinking.
“ O horror, horror, horror!, Tongue nor heart cannot conceive nor name thee! ( Act II,III, LXXIV)
In this scene MacDuff was talking to Macbeth, because he needed to see the King, when Macbeth led the way to his chambers, MacDuff couldn’t believe what he was seeing, he couldn’t say a word and his heart was with no reaction, he couldn’t believe and couldn’t say out loud what he was seeing beneath his eyes, Duncan was dead.
“Your royal father’s murdered” (Act II, III, CXVII)
In this scene MacDuff has just annoyed to Malcolm that his father had been murdered. He then asks by who he was murdered, and the answer for him was that his servants that were in the chamber had killed him. Macbeth had framed the servants for the murderer of Duncan, and then he killed the servants as well. Malcolm and Donalbain scared that their fate could be the same they fled to Ireland and England, giving Macbeth the perfect opportunity to say that they (the kids of Duncan) that had committed the murder.

Sarah, watch that you do not fall into to too much plot summary or paraphrasing; jump straight into the analysis and why these lines are important in creating his character. (Watch word choice at times and proof read carefully.)

    Act IV

    MacDuff

    “ Macbeth!Macbeth!Macbeth! Beware Macduff” (IV, I, LXXXI)
This line is said by one of the apparitions, to Macbeth. This scene takes place when Macbeth goes to the witches coven, to ask about the privacy, since he is living day to day with it and he wants to know about the profecy , the witches than say to him that he has to be aware with Macduff, he says that he has nothing to worry about, and he is not afraid, but he will not leave up to fate, even though he has no need he would kill Macduff, just to be certain that he can’t interrupt he is any of his accomplishments. This line is important, because is showing the first time that the witches are putting some attention in Macduff, and saying it to Macbeth, it where 2 plot starts to happen.

“ Tis two or three, my lord, that bring you word, Macduff is fled to England.” (IV, I, CLXI)
This line is Lennox telling Macbeth that Macduff had fled to England. MacDuff had just went to England to try to persuade Malcolm to form a army, and go against Scotland, or in this case against Macbeth to try to gain the land back from the tyrant. Macbeth after hearing this news got really mad, because he had the plan to kill Macduff, because of what the witches said. After he heard than Macduff had fled, he then sent murderers to Macduff’s house to kill all his family; wife, kids, servants and everyone that was in the house. This line is important, because is the mark of the battle, it where Macduff went to try to persuade Malcolm to bring troops towards Scotland, so that they could get their country back, and is where Macbeth gets so angry that Macduff had fled, and he did not kill him that he kills Macduffs’s whole family, and the thirst of revenge in Macduff just increases.

“Wisdom? to leave his wife, to leave his babes..” ( IV, II, VIII)
This line is said by Lady Macduff to Ross, after he brought the news that Macduff had went to England. She got really mad at the news, because he fled without saying anything, she then is mad because he doesn’t love her, or his babies, she is saying that he in no father, and as no love for either his wife and or babies. Ross says that he had to go England, not for fear that he was felling, but because of his wisdom, after he said that she got really upset, because she can’t see where the wisdom fit, in leaving all of his family behind, she then accuses him of treason, to ross, and to his kids as well. this is showing how people intentions could be misunderstood, because even Macduff wife, is saying that he was a traitor, only because he went to England to try to win his country back.

Sarah, a fine analysis of these quotations. What about Macduff’s lines to Malcolm and about his family in scene three? These are really important to his character. (Watch spelling generally and with “coven”; do you mean cave??)

    Act V

    MacDuff

“ Let our just censures, Attend the true event, and put we on, Industrious soldiership.”( V. IV. XIX)
This quote is when MacDuff is talking to Malcolm and Siward. They are trying to see the outcome of the battle, that they have the advantage because of their technique of the cut down tree, and macDuff is telling to them to not try to figure out the out come of the battle , that they have to go out there and fight, and then they will know if they had the advantage. This quote is important because is the fist thing that MacDuff says in Scene 4, and is showing how precocious he is regarding the battle, he doesn’t think is won, and he know that he will have to fight all he can, so that he can survive, he is very aware of the difficulty of the battle, and that show how focused, he is

“ Make all our trumpets speak; give them all breath, Those clamorous harbingers of blood and death.” (V.VII. X)
This quote is MacDuff asking for the trumpets to play, because they are going to attack, and the trumpets are the announced of death, and by playing the trumpets before they attack, is portraying that they are already warning that they will kill every one, that they are going to spill a lot of blood. This is important because is the announcement of the battle that will be the end of Macbeth, the importance of the trumpets are to show the audience that he is letting Macbeth know that he is coming, and for him to be ready, because a lot of blood will be spilled, specially his (macbeth).

“ Despair thy charm, And let the angel whom thou still hast served, Tell thee MacDuff was from his mother’s womb, Untimely ripped. (V.VIII. XVII)
This in my opinion is the most important quote of MacDuff in the Novel. In this quote is declaring to Macbeth that he wasn’t born in a natural form, that he was ripped out of his mother’s womb. He said that, because macbeth was saying to him, that he wouldn’t kill hi, because he had killed to many of his family already, and that he would not be able to kill him as well (Macduff wont be able to kill macbeth), because the only one that could kill him is the one born from unnatural cause, Macduff them confess that he wasn’t. This is so important to the book, because is the scene that Macbeth finally sees death pass throw his eyes, he realizes that was it, he would finish his life, is that moment.

    Final Thoughts
MacDuff was very well focused for the battle, because his taste of revenge was too big, because Macbeth killed his wife and son
MacDuff revelas to Macbeth that he was born on unnatural form
Macbeth Dies in the hands of Macduff.
